Single and Double Crochet Ribbed Shawl
Stay warm and cozy with this easy crochet ribbed shawl pattern. It is a simple rectangular shawl that is easy to customize in size, thus giving you endless styling options to accommodate any occasion.
The colors also are easy to customize. I did mine in a solid, but the stitches make it super easy to go wild with any striped design – perfect for cleaning up your yarn stash. Blocks of colors would also look lovely with this pattern.
Also, I should mention that I used Bernat Satin, which has been discontinued. Caron Simply Soft would be a good substitute. Both yarns have the same gauge.

Crochet Ribbed Shawl – Pattern Information
To make this crochet shawl you only need to know two stitches: The single and double crochet. The pretty ribs are creased simply by crocheting into only one loop in the row below. The double crochet is worked into the back loops only of the single crochet, and the single crochet is worked into the front loops only of the double crochet.

Materials
Yarn: Bernat Satin (Worsted Weight, #4; 100% Acrylic; 3.5 oz/100g; 200yds/182m) Color: Stardust, 5 balls. Note: Bernat Satin has been discontinued. A good substitute would be Caron Simply Soft – About 500 grams.
Crochet Hook: H 5.00mm
Other: Scissors, Yarn Needle.
Measurements
Gauge: 14 sts = 4″
Finished Size: 18″ by 66″.
Crochet Abbreviations
Bldc = Back Loop Double Crochet
Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains
Flsc = Front Loop Single Crochet
Sc = Single Crochet
St/Sts = Stitch/Stitches
Special Stitch Instructions
Bldc: Work the double crochet as normal, but insert your hook into the back loops only. The back loops are the ones furthest away from you.
Flsc: Work the single crochet as normal, but insert your hook into the front loops only. The front loops are the ones closest to you.
Crochet Ribbed Shawl – Pattern Instructions
Ch 61, or any number of chains you need for the width.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn. [60 sts]
Row 2: Ch 2 (does not count as st), bldc in first st and into each st across. Turn. [60 sts]
Row 3: Ch 1 (does not count as st), flsc in first st and into each st across, Turn. [60 sts]
Rows 4-139: Rep Rows 2 & 3.
Edging
Rnds 1-2: With Ribbed side facing, ch 1, sc evenly around working 3 sc into each corner. Join with a slip stitch in the first sc. Fasten Off.
