Slanted Cluster Crochet Hair Scrunchie

This luxurious crochet hair scrunchie pattern has got it all from lace to texture and a nice full look, but without excess bulk! Regardless of your style, it’s the perfect handmade touch to any outfit from t-shirts and jeans to dresses, and everything in between.

Crocheted hair scrunchies not only work up quickly with leftover yarns, but they make for great gifts and craft fair items.

The Size

I used a 6″ circumference scrunchie, but any size will work. The stitch multiple is a multiple of two, which is established in the third round. So regardless of how many stitches you start with in the first round, the multiple will work out.

The Yarn

Choose a fine #2 yarn. I used Cotton Fair by Premier, which is a cotton/acrylic blend, but anything similar will work.

You could use a thicker yarn, but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you want it to be super big.

The Stitch Pattern

Despite the name, the slanted cluster only makes up for one round in this crochet hair scrunchie. The scrunchie pattern is started by working single crochets around a hair elastic until it is nice and full.

Then half doubles and chain-2 spaces to get the ruffles started. I love an open stitch pattern, so adding four single crochets into each chain-2 space made perfect sense to me.

Next, are the slanted clusters, which are made with a puff stitch worked around the base of a double crochet. It’s really neat and looks great in a hair scrunchie like this.

Finally, another round of single crochets to finish it up.
