Single Crochet and Cross Stitch Textured Dishcloth
This textured dishcloth crochet pattern has a nice texture on both sides of the fabric. It’s a nice solid stitch pattern, yet has a nice drape, which makes it ideal for dishes, the bath, or for cleaning around the home.
Work it up in a solid color as shown, or use up your leftovers from the yarn stash. With this stitch you could use two colors and change the color after each row. Or, use up a small piece of yarn and work one row of contrast towards the beginning and end of the cloth.
Regardless of what you choose, this textured crochet dishcloth pattern makes for a great housewarming gift for just about anyone on your list.
The Size
The finished cloth measures approximately 7.5 inches square after blocking. However, it can easily be adjusted to any size you need in the multiple provided for the starting chains.
The Yarn
I chose Bernat Handicrafter, which is a medium worsted weight cotton yarn.
I used a 6 mm crochet hook for the main part of the dishcloth and 5.5 mm for the edge.
For this crochet project, I chose a larger hook than what’s recommended on the yarn label because the cross stitches tend to pull together for a stiffer fabric. And for dishcloths, you really don’t want the fabric to be too stiff.

This crochet dishcloth is worked with the single crochet stitches in one row, and the single crochet cross stitch in the next. When worked together the two stitches create a nice solid fabric that is perfect for all your washing needs.

Materials
- Yarn: Bernat Handicrafter Cotton (Worsted Weight, #4; 100% Cotton; 1.75 oz/50g; 80yds/73m) 1 ball.
- Crochet Hooks: J – 6mm and I – 5.5mm
- Other: Measuring Tape, Scissors, Yarn Needle.
Measurements
- Gauge: 14 sts = 4".
- Finished Size: 7.5" square.

Note
- When you do the edging, choose which side you prefer as the right side and then work the edging round from that side.
Instructions
- With J hook, ch 25, or any multiple of 2 + 1.
- Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and into each ch across. Turn. [24 sts]
- Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first 2 sts, *sk next st, sc in next st, backtrack and sc in skipped st; rep from * across to the last 2 sts, sc in the last 2 sts. Turn. [24 sts]
- Row 3: Ch 1, sc into first st and into each st across. Turn. [24 sts]
- Rows 4-25: Rep Rows 2 and 3. [24 sts]
Edging
- Rnd 1: With Right Side facing and I crochet hook, ch 1, sc evenly around working 3 sc into each corner; join with a slip stitch in first sc.
I think probably you meant right side (not ride) in the note — unless there’s new crochet jargon I should be learning — which tells me only that SpelChek ‘got’ you! (SpelChek is his formal nickname. Just wrote down the pattern. Will be using a thinner cotton so will go down to H hook and should have a beautiful dish cloth for myself and others. Thank you for the pattern.:)
