Alternating Chunky Infinity Cowl Crochet Pattern

At last, I present you with the alternating chunky infinity cowl crochet pattern. It’s the perfect match for the Alternating Chunky Slouch, and can be crocheted to the length and width that you like. That in turn gives you ultimate styling options from a small cowl that wraps around once, or a bigger cowl that can be wrapped twice, and even worn as a hooded cowl.

The pattern is shown for the infinity cowl, but you can also work this as a regular cowl. The infinity cowl drapes better, but it has a seam-like appearance in the middle. For those who’d rather not have that, may follow the instructions given for a regular cowl.

The chunky yarn adds a nice touch of warmth, but also helps the project to work up more quickly.

Chunky Infinity Cowl Crochet Pattern Information

Skill Level: Easy

While the pattern itself is easy, having knowledge of how to crochet an infinity cowl can help to make it easier to understand.

Materials

  • Yarn: Loops and Threads Charisma (Bulky Weight, #5; 100% Acrylic; 109 yds/100m; 3.5 oz/100g) Colors: Taupe, 1 ball; Think Pink, 1 ball.
  • Crochet Hook: 10.00mm

Measurements

Gauge: 1.75″ over 2 (hdc, sl st) sets.

Finished Size: When laying flat, it measures 21.5″ long by 8.5″ wide. However, you can easily adjust the size. The size given is a snug wrap for a small adult, if wrapped twice. Please take the measurements and adjust the length as desired. Also note that if you increase the size, you may need more yarn.

Abbreviations

  • CA = Color A
  • CB = Color B
  • Blslst = Back Loop Slip Stitch
  • Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains
  • Flhdc = Front Loop Half Double Crochet
  • Hdc = Half Double Crochet
  • Lp/Lps = Loop/Loops
  • Rep = Repeat
  • Sl St = Slip Stitch
  • St/Sts = Stitch/Stitches

Notes

All rounds are joined in both loops of first stitch made in round.

Color changes are made after the joining slip stitch.

If you experience difficulties making the first flhdc and blslst in each round, try wiggling the hook and keeping the stitches loose, but not too loose.

The stitches are alternated with the half double crochet worked into the front loop only of the slip stitch, and the slip stitch is worked into the back loop only of the half double crochet. See Tutorial
