Lacy Crochet Flower Square Pattern

March 12, 2014 · Rhelena · 2 Comments

This lacy crochet flower square is the perfect square for spring and summer blankets. The beauty is that when working with squares you can easily decide how big you want to make the blanket as you go along.

Another beauty with a crochet square is that you can use up all your leftover yarns! Each square can be crocheted with two or more colors. You can also alternate the colors in between the squares for another awesome look.

The Size

This afghan square measures 5.25 inches across. However, you can change the size by switching up your yarn and crochet hook sizes. A thicker yarn and larger hook will result in a slightly larger size and vice versa.

The Yarn

I used Patons Canadiana with a 4mm crochet hook. I crochet loose, so you may need to go up in size if you find the stitches are too small.

How It’s Made

This is an easy crochet square to make. It is worked flat across all the rounds. Then once complete, the flower is crocheted on top of the rounds in the middle of the square. It is super easy to do.

All stitches are easy to make. The only stitch that isn’t so popular is the Standing Double Crochet, which is an alternative to a chain 3 at the beginning of a round or row. The stitch blends in more than the starting chains and it just as easy if not easier to make.

To make the stitch, start off with a slip knot on hook. Yarn over and insert hook into designated stitch, chain or space. Then finish the dc as normal. See images below:
