Measurements and Size Chart

  • Gauge: 12 sts = 4″.
  • Finished Sizes: 20″ in circumference by 10.5″ tall.

Special Stitch Instructions

Beg V-st: Ch 3 (counts as first hdc and ch-1 sp), hdc in same st to complete the v-st.

V-st: (hdc, ch 1, hdc) in designated ch, st, or sp.

Pattern Instructions

Ribbing Rows

Row 1: Ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from hook and into each ch across. Turn. [9 sc]

Rows 2-60: Ch 1, blsc in first st and into each st across. Turn. [9 sts] Continue with this row until you have reached a desired circumference, making sure to end with a multiple of 6.

Ch 1 and join the ribbing rows by slip stitching the last row to the free loops of starting chs. See this tutorial on how to crochet ribbing.

Working in the Round (Body of Hat)

Rnd 1 (RS): Working along the ribbing edge, ch 1, sc in the end of the first row and into each row around; join with sl st in first sc. Turn. [60 sts]

Rnd 2 (WS): Sl st in first 2 sts, ch 3 (counts as first hdc and ch-1 sp), hdc in same st to complete the v-st, *sk next 2 sts, v-st in next st; rep from * around; join with sl st in first hdc (2nd ch). Turn. [20 v-sts]

Rnd 3: Sl st into first v-st, ch 4 (counts as first tr), work another 2 tr in first v-st, 3 tr in next v-st and into each v-st around; join with sl st in first tr (4th ch). Turn.  [60 sts]

Rnds 4-11: Rep Rnds 2 &3.

Rnd 12: Rep Rnd 2.

Rnd 13: Sl st into first v-st, ch 1, 2 sc in same v-st and into each v-st around; join with sl st in first sc. Do not turn. [40 sts]

Rnd 14: Ch 1, sc2tog around; join with sl st in first st. [20 sts] Fasten Off, leaving an 8″-10″ tail to weave in through the last Rnd. Pull tight to close and secure. Leave as is, or add an optional pom pom.
