Half Double and Double Crochet V Stitch Dishcloth
This half double and double crochet v stitch dishcloth pattern is a go-to pattern for your dish and washcloths for many reasons. One, it features an open stitch, making it quicker for drying time. And two, you can easily adjust the size to your liking.
The right side (pictured above) is my favorite side of this dishcloth, but the wrong side below looks great too! When you do your edging, pick the side that you like best and then work it from that side.
The Size
If you’ve been following my blog for a while you will know that I like my dishcloths on the small side. If you are the opposite, you can easily make this bigger in the simple multiple as outlined in the pattern.
Make it smaller for a coaster for your desk. Or, even larger for a placemat for the kitchen table. It’s that easy to make a set for your kitchen. It’ll make for a nice set to gift to your entire circle of friends and family!

The Yarn
Choose a cotton, because it is much more durable for a dishcloth. It takes longer to dry, but with an open stitch like this it won’t take that long.
My favorite go-to cottons are Bernat Handicrafter Cotton and Sugar ‘n Cream. But any dishcloth cotton will work just as well.
With that said, if you plan on using this in the bath, you might wish to choose an acrylic or any other yarn that you prefer.

The Stitch Pattern
The v stitch can be made in a number of ways, and here I rotated the rows with the half double and double crochet v stitches. I like the final outcome of the two different rows as it adds a nice balance to the fabric. With that said, you could easily do all rows of the same stitch, either all with the half double or all with the double crochet v stitches.
Also, I did mine without an edging, which makes it quick and easy to whip up. But with a single crochet edging it looks much better.

- Crochet Hook: H/8-5.00mm
- Other: Measuring Tape, Scissors, Yarn Needle.
Measurements
- Gauge: Not Important.
- Finished Size: 6.25" by 6.25" without an edging.
Abbreviations
- Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains
- Dc = Double Crochet
- Hdc = Half Double Crochet
- Rep = Repeat
- Sk = Skip
- Sp/Sps = Space/Spaces
- St/Sts = Stitch/Stitches
- V-St = V Stitch
Special Stitch Instructions
- Hdc V-st: (hdc, ch 1, hdc) in designated ch or sp.
- Dc V-st: (dc, ch 1, dc) in designated sp.
Instructions
- Ch 24, or any multiple of 3.
- Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook, sk next ch, hdc v-st in next ch *sk next 2 chs, hdc v-st in next ch; rep from * across to last 2 chs, sk next ch, hdc in last ch. Turn. [7 v-sts]
- Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc v-st in first v-st and into each v-st across. Dc in last st. Turn.
- Row 3: Ch 1, hdc in first st, hdc v-st in first v-st and into each v-st across. Hdc in last st. Turn.
- Rows 4-13: Repeat Rows 2 and 3. Fasten off at last row.
Optional Edging:
- Add a single crochet edging.
